Plans

“And it came to me then, that every plan is a tiny prayer to Father Time…”

We’re officially on the road to North Adams… via Concord, NH. This evening has been a bit chaotic, but now that I’m in the comfortable calm of the car, listening to Death Cab for Cutie, I’m able to find amusement in the contrast of how indirect and multidirectional tonight has has been in comparison to the next seventeen days when our direction will be relentlessly North.

Between the two of us, today we’ll have been to Allston, Framingham, Cambridge, Lowell, and North Adams, Massachusetts, and Concord, New Hampshire by car, bus, commuter rail and subway train. Tomorrow morning, we will enter Vermont by foot, and it’ll stay that way for 273 miles.

The past two days have been a frenzied blur. I do wish I’d had more time and energy to dedicate to all the well-wishes from everyone.  I would have welcomed a more mellow departure, but I can’t deny that it made me even more excited to get into the woods – once I accepted that what was done was done and I’d done the best I could do with the time I had (this acceptance came about five minutes ago…)
